• ARM to Challenge Intel’s Notebook Dominance by 2013

ARM, who designs are used in the chips that power the iPad and iPhone are seen as challenging Intel’s notebook chip dominance by 2013, according to Digitimes. ARM are already dominating the smartphone and tablet market, so and expansion to the traditional laptop and netbook market is logically expected.

Even though ARM’s raw processing power is not yet on a par with Intel’s, both companies are expected to be on the same level within a couple of years, and industry insiders have claimed that Intel could be facing “its biggest crisis yet” from ARM in 2013.

ARM have long been supplying Apple’s mobile devices, and you wonder if they won’t start supplying Apple’s computers as well. Their chips have been tremendously successful in the iPad and iPhone, and considering Apple’s philosophy regarding seamless hardware and software integration, it would make sense for Apple to start making their own chips once again.
